2. College Magazine: Drafts

College Magazine Photoshoot Ideas

The above sketches are the ideas I had for the college magazine photos. The first one I thought would be great for the front cover since this represented the main article of the magazine. The idea was to accompany an article titled “Are you lying?” The boy on the left is to be looking like a rebel with his hood up, holding a placard saying “False” on it. The placard is going to be red. The girl on the right is to be looking very angelic and sweet, holding a placard saying “True” on it. This is supposed to represent a sort of lie-detector theme where the reader will see that the rebel’s answer will often turn out false and the good girl’s answer will often turn out true.

The second idea is of a boy reading a book with a confused expression on his face. However, the book is upside down which is a sort of comical photo. This is so accompany an article titled “1 HR homework tip”, representing a boy who has no idea what he’s doing yet even he can do his homework in one hour.

The third photo is of a group of three friends, sitting on the floor, taking pictures of each other. I had this in mind for the contents page to show a representation of our readers. It’s supposed to be a fun picture that’s full of character. All the above shots will be taken on a white background.

1. College Magazine: Mind Maps

College Magazine Title Ideas

I wanted the title of my college magazine to speak to the youth of today and make them feel like this magazine is on their level. I didn’t want them to think the magazine would be unhelpful to them or to feature any articles that they would have no interest in. Therefore, I decided to make this magazine very real, honest and youthful. The above titles such as “#Hashtag” and “@info” are titles you would associate with the Social Networking site “Twitter” through their stylisation and the use of the “@” and “#” signs. However, I didn’t think these looked like serious and professional titles. I feared that if I used these then it wouldn’t look like a title at all, just random words on the page. I contemplated using the title “Question?” a lot but I later decided not to since this wasn’t a good representation of my college magazine’s content. Since the content of the magazine is going to feature articles that would help young people in every aspect of their life as well as entertain them in the language they use, the chosen title “Top Reb” was the one I believed represented this. Top Reb is a saying amongst youths meaning “Top Rebel”, someone who strays from the norm and leads their own path. This suited the magazine since the magazine is all about being an individual and making your own destiny. Youths would also feel like this is a magazine representing them in their true form instead of how people believe youths should be.

College Magazine Article Ideas

For the articles I decided to include a wide range of subjects. I have a “Regulars” category which are the articles that will appear each week in the magazine. There is “Ask Anna”, an agony aunt who the readers can send in their questions to and have the chance of getting them answered in the magazine. This will also be good to help the readers find answers to similar issues even if they haven’t sent a question in. There is also “Notorious Neeks”, Neeks being another word for geeks which will be a recurring article with a new short story about a gang of friends with are the “Notorious Neeks”. “The World of Entertainment” will give all the latest gossip on the celebrity world which will appeal to the youthful readers. “Nikki’s News” is all the latest across the world that may directly affect teenagers and youths attending college.

In terms of cover stories, for this specific issue, the articles are a little more humorous, appearing to tell you stuff that may not be politically correct like “How to lie to your teacher” and “What boy’s are really thinking” yet this is just a way to draw readers in. The actual articles are about those subjects yet give a moral teaching inside them.

I also have a “Reviews” where we features different reviews on books, music and films. This will keep students well informed on what’s currently out there and whether they should spend their money on something or not.
